There was a study done as to where it made more sense to buy instead of rent. Published by online real estate listing service Trulia, they gave the following cities in order: Minneapolis, Arlington TX, Miami, Fresno CA, San Antonio, Mesa AZ, Jacksonvile, FLA, Phoenix, El Paso TX and Las Vegas.
This indicates prices are low enough to purchase and would be more economical than renting. Some of these cities automatically remind me of weather conditions--like too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. I think I'll stay in "sunny" California.
