Yorba Linda Library Info

I went to our local realtors city caravan this morning and we had the Director from the Yorba Linda Library give us information on what is happening there. It is certainly not like the old library stereotype I grew up with as a kid. Lots happening. They have 1,000 visitors per day. She described it as becoming a social center and programs for different age groups. There were 4,000 in the summer reading program for children. They also have reading programs for teens and adults as well.

I really took note when it was announced that Robert Wagner will be there on November 6 to talk about Hollywood.

They have a great collection of audio books on CD. There are 29 computers and data bases are available by logging in. There is one on car repair and another on tutoring where students can connect with a live tutor. Wow, things have changed. She also mentioned they have a practice for students needing help in getting ready for the SAT test.

She talked about a program called "Battle of the Books" where grades 4-6, 6-8 and 9-12 read 20 books and then there is a trivia competition. They had 600 kids participating.

There is a bookstore in the basement run by volunteers which helps with expenses at the library. Books can be donated.

There is also a room at the library that holds 300 that can be rented for about $35- to $50 per hour. It is usually booked.

Lots of good things happening at the library. Check it out.
